Effective June 19, 2014, the licence of Sheung Kee Trading Co. Inc. was reinstated and the company was allowed to resume operations under ongoing inspection by the CFIA.

May 12, 2014: The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has suspended the fish import licence of Sheung Kee Trading Co. Inc. effective April 30, 2014. The company is located in Markham, Ontario.

There is no food recall associated with this suspension. The import licence was suspended because the company sold product without receiving a release from the CFIA, as required under the Fish Inspection Regulations.

An appeal can be requested within 60 days of suspension of the licence. This request must be accompanied by an acceptable, written corrective action plan.

Licences and registrations of federally registered establishments or companies can be suspended or cancelled for failing to comply with relevant CFIA Acts and Regulations. The CFIA publishes a list of suspensions and cancellations on its web site.
