Effective July 14, 2014, the licence of S & F Food Importers Inc. was reinstated and the company was allowed to resume operations under ongoing inspection by the CFIA.

July 9, 2014: The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has suspended the fish import licence of S & F Food Importers Inc., effective July 8, 2014. The importing company is located in Vaughan, Ontario.

The import licence was suspended because the company had distributed product that had been detained as a result of failing a container integrity inspection. This action is a violation of s. 8.(4) of the Fish Inspection Regulations. The company may not import fish into Canada while their import licence is suspended.

On May 22, the CFIA issued a Class III product recall associated with this suspension:

An appeal can be requested within 60 days of the suspension of the licence. This request must be accompanied by an acceptable written corrective action plan.

Licences and registrations of federally registered establishments or companies can be suspended or cancelled for failing to comply with relevant CFIA Acts and Regulations. The CFIA publishes a list of suspensions and cancellations on its website.
