CFIA suspends the fish import licence of Omega Fish and Foods, Ltd.

Effective May 13, 2019, the Safe Food for Canadians (SFC) licence for Omega Fish and Foods, Ltd. was cancelled

January 21, 2019, Ottawa: The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has suspended the fish import licence of Omega Fish and Foods, Ltd. located in Calgary, Alberta, effective January 14, 2019.

There is no recall associated with this suspension.

The licence suspension is the result of various violations to provisions under the Fish Inspection Regulations related to labelling and record keeping.

The company may not import fish into Canada while its fish import licence is suspended. An appeal can be requested within 60 days of suspension of the fish import licence. This request must be accompanied by an acceptable, written corrective action plan (CAP). 

As of January 15, 2019, fish import licences fall under the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations.

Licences and registrations of federally registered establishments or companies can be suspended, cancelled or refused renewal for failure to comply with relevant CFIA Acts and Regulations. See a complete list of suspensions and cancellations.
