Effective September 9, 2014, the licence of Establishment 3818, Islenska-Canada Limited was reinstated and the company was allowed to resume operations under ongoing inspection by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
September 5, 2014: The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has suspended the license to operate of Establishment 3818, Islenska-Canada Limited, a fish processing facility located in East Pubnico, Nova Scotia, effective September 2, 2014.
The Agency has determined that adequate controls for food safety are not being reliably implemented in the facility on a consistent basis. The facility has failed to meet the minimum regulatory standards for equipment, sanitation and hygiene, required under the Fish Inspection Regulations.
There is no food recall associated with this suspension.
Islenska-Canada Limited will not be able to resume operations until they have fully implemented the necessary corrective measures and the CFIA is fully confident in the plant's capacity to effectively manage food safety risks.
Licences and registrations of federally registered establishments or companies can be suspended or cancelled for failing to comply with relevant CFIA Acts and Regulations. The CFIA publishes a list of suspensions and cancellations on its web site.
