June 21, 2019, Ottawa: The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has suspended the Safe Food for Canadians licence of Fantis Foods Canada Ltd., a dairy establishment located in Saint-Jacques, Quebec, effective June 19, 2019, pursuant to the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations.
While the suspension is in effect, the licence holder may not conduct any activity for which licence number 8B8JGVH9 was issued.
There is no food recall associated with this suspension.
The CFIA suspended the licence because the licence holder failed to implement its preventive control plan with respect to cleaning and sanitation conditions of the equipment and the facility in accordance with the applicable provisions of Part 4 of the Regulations.
Industry is responsible for the safety and quality of their food products and for ensuring that they comply with Canada’s food laws. CFIA is committed to enforcing those laws.
The suspension may be lifted if CFIA determines that acceptable corrective actions were taken to address the non-compliance(s). If measures are not taken within 90 days after suspension, CFIA may cancel the licence.
Safe Food for Canadians licences can be suspended:
- for failure to comply with the Safe Food for Canadians Act, the Food and Drugs Act and their related regulations;
- for the default in payment of any fee related to the issuance of the licence;
- if CFIA determines that there is a potential risk to the public.
