February 13, 2015 Ottawa: The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has not renewed the registration of Establishment 3788, JHS FishProducts Canada Ltd., effective February 11, 2015.The establishment is a federally registered fish processing and exporting facility located in Pleasant Lake, Nova Scotia.

The CFIA has determined that adequate controls for food safety are not being reliably implemented in the facility on a consistent basis, which is in violation of the Fish Inspection Regulations.

Specifically, Establishment 3788 was unable to consistently maintain minimum regulatory standards for construction and equipment, sanitation and process controls. The registration renewal is being refused after repeated registration suspensions by the CFIA and to date, the establishment has been unable to implement corrective measures.

All products currently at the facility that were produced under these inadequate conditions are under CFIA detention and control. There is no recall associated with this non-renewal.

The company has been informed of its right to file an appeal for this decision through the CFIA's Complaints and Appeals Office.

Licences and registrations of federally registered establishments or companies can be suspended, cancelled or refused renewal for failure to comply with relevant CFIA Acts and Regulations. The CFIA publishes a list of suspensions and cancellations on its website.
