CFIA Suspends Operations at Establishment 3788, JHS Fishproducts Canada Ltd.

Effective March 27, 2013, the establishment was allowed to resume production under ongoing inspection by the CFIA.

March 20, 2013, Ottawa: The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) suspended the license to operate of Establishment 3788, JHS Fishproducts Canada Ltd., in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia on March 19, 2013. The establishment processes dried fish heads, bones and fillets for export and these products are not available in the Canadian marketplace.

The CFIA has determined that the plant has failed to fully implement corrective actions to address deficiencies related to plant sanitation, construction and equipment.

JHS Fishproducts Canada Ltd. will not be able to resume operations until they have fully implemented the necessary corrective actions and modified their quality management program in order to prevent these deficiencies from occurring in future.

Food safety is the CFIA's top priority and the Agency is working diligently to protect consumers from potential risks in the food supply.
