Effective July 11, 2014, the licence of Establishment 1461, Huskins Fisheries Limited was reinstated and the company was allowed to resume operations under ongoing inspection by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
July 7, 2014: The CFIA has suspended the licence of Establishment 1461, Huskins Fisheries Limited, in Upper Woods Harbour, Nova Scotia, effective July 3, 2014.
The CFIA has determined that adequate controls for food safety are not being reliably implemented in the facility on a consistent basis. The company has failed to implement an effective Quality Management Program Plan as required by the Fish Inspection Regulations. The company has also failed to fully correct deficiencies previously identified through CFIA inspections.
There is no food recall associated with this suspension.
Huskins Fisheries Limited will not be able to resume operations until they have fully implemented the necessary corrective actions and the CFIA is fully confident in the plant's capacity to effectively manage food safety risks.
Licences and registrations of federally registered establishments or companies can be suspended or cancelled for failing to comply with relevant CFIA Acts and Regulations. The CFIA publishes a list of suspensions and cancellations on its web site.
