Effective Sept. 16, 2015, the federal registration of Est. 0740, Pacific Northwest Shellfish Co. Ltd. was reinstated and the company is allowed to resume operations under ongoing inspection by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
August 25, 2015, Ottawa: The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has suspended the federal registration of Establishment 0740, Pacific Northwest Shellfish Co. Ltd. in Richmond, BC effective August 19, 2015.
The CFIA has determined that adequate controls for food safety are not being reliably implemented in the facility on a consistent basis, as required by the Fish Inspection Regulations. The company has failed to correct deficiencies previously identified through CFIA inspections.
On June 12, the CFIA issued a Class II product recall associated with this suspension:
Pacific Northwest Shellfish Co. Ltd. will not be able to resume operations as a federally registered establishment until it has fully implemented the necessary corrective actions and the CFIA is fully confident in the facility's capacity to effectively manage food safety risks.
Licences and registrations of federally registered establishments or companies can be suspended or cancelled for failure to comply with relevant CFIA Acts and Regulations. The CFIA publishes a list of suspensions and cancellations on its web site.
