CFIA suspends the produce licence of Donato Fruits et Légumes Inc.
March 16, 2018, Ottawa: The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has suspended the produce licence (#7418) of Donato Fruits et Légumes Inc., effective March 14, 2018. Donato Fruits et Légumes Inc. is a fresh fruit and vegetable importer and distributor located in Montréal, QC.
This suspension is a result of non-compliance with the Licensing and Arbitration Regulations for consistently failing to settle outstanding debts.
The licence has been suspended for 90 days; if the financial responsibilities are not addressed within the suspension period, the produce licence will be cancelled. Should financial settlement be reached, Donato Fruits et Légumes Inc. may re-apply for a licence and some additional conditions may apply.
There are no food safety concerns associated with this licence suspension.
The purpose of licensing under the Licensing and Arbitration Regulations is to ensure that fresh fruit and vegetable dealers (i.e. those that import and trade across provincial boundaries) are financially sound and have acceptable business practices. Fair trading practices within the fresh fruit and vegetable industry are particularly important due to the perishable nature of the product and a rapid trading environment.
Licences and registrations of federally registered establishments or companies can be suspended, cancelled or refused renewal for failure to comply with relevant CFIA Acts and Regulations. See a complete list of suspensions and cancellations.
