January 9, 2014 (Ottawa): The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has cancelled the cheese import licence of Beira Mar Importers Co. Ltd., effective January 7, 2014. The importing company is located in Burnaby, BC.

The CFIA confirmed that the company does not meet the requirements to hold a cheese import licence in accordance with the Dairy Products Regulations paragraph 26.3 (a) which requires that an importer maintain a recall program. The company's cheese import licence was suspended on October 8, 2013 due to non-compliance with these regulations.

There is no food recall associated with the cheese import licence cancellation.

Licences of persons and registrations of establishments can be suspended and cancelled for failing to comply with relevant legislation.
