Federal Sustainable Development Strategy

The Federal Sustainable Development Strategy (FSDS) is the government's plan and vision for a more sustainable Canada. It outlines goals and actions to promote clean growth, ensure healthy ecosystems and build safe, secure and sustainable communities.

The FSDS presents the Government of Canada's sustainable development activities, as required by the Federal Sustainable Development Act. In keeping with the objectives of the Act to make environmental decision making more transparent and accountable to Parliament, the CFIA adheres to the principles of the FSDS and has been a voluntary participant in the FSDS.

Departmental Sustainable Development Strategy

Under the FSDA , certain departments and agencies are legally required to participate in the FSDS and table Departmental Sustainable Development Strategies (DSDS). While CFIA is not bound by the Act, it adheres to the principles of the FSDS and has voluntarily developed the 2020-2023 Departmental Sustainable Development Strategy (DSDS).

Reports on DSDS progress will continue to be produced yearly, through the Departmental Results Report.
