On October 29, 2019, in the Saint-Hyacinthe courthouse, Spécialités M.B. inc., a fresh and frozen meat processing company in the regional county municipality of Les Maskoutains, pleaded guilty to one count of contravening the Meat Inspection Regulations, 1990.
The Court of Québec ordered the company to pay a $1,000 fine.
CFIA's investigation determined that, on or about August 19, 2017, Spécialités M.B. inc. processed, packaged and labelled a meat product in its registered establishment outside the hours of operation without the authorization of an inspector, contrary to section 32 of the Meat Inspection Regulations, 1990. The non-compliant food products were disposed of on September 15, 2017.
