Robert Kropelnicki and Gordon P. Kropelnicki Fined $1,000 each for Offences Under the Health of Animals Regulations

November 3, 2016, Ottawa: On September 29, 2016, at the Manitoba Provincial Court in Dauphin, Manitoba, Robert Kropelnicki and Gordon P. Kropelnicki entered a guilty plea to one count each of contravening subsection 138(2)(a) of the Health of Animals Regulations and were ordered to pay a fine of $1,000 each.

The CFIA's investigation determined that on or between January 8, 2015 and January 9, 2015, at or between Sifton and Carman, Manitoba, Robert Kropelnicki and Gordon P. Kropelnicki loaded and transported cows that were not suitable for transport, contrary to paragraph 138(2)(a) of the Health of Animals Regulations.

Subsection 138(2)(a) of the Health of Animals Regulations indicates that subject to subsection (3), no person shall load or cause to be loaded on any railway car, motor vehicle, aircraft or vessel and no one shall transport or cause to be transported an animal that by reason of infirmity, illness, injury, fatigue or any other cause cannot be transported without undue suffering during the expected journey.
