Bruce Arabsky fined $6,000 for offences under the Meat Inspection Act

May 25, 2016, Ottawa: On May 3, 2016, in Port Coquitlam Provincial Court, Mr. Bruce Arabsky was convicted on three counts of contravening subsection 14(1) of the Meat Inspection Act. Mr. Arabsky was ordered to pay a $6,000.00 fine.

Subsection 14(1) of the Meat Inspection Act indicates that no person shall obstruct or hinder, or make any false or misleading statement, either orally or in writing, to an inspector while the inspector is engaged in carrying out his duties or functions under this Act or the regulations.

The CFIA's investigation determined that between April 15, 2010, and May 2, 2010, Bruce Arabsky unlawfully made a false statement in writing to an inspector, certifying that the food being inspected was turkey, when the food was chicken, contrary to subsection 14(1) of the Meat Inspection Act.
