July 15, 2016, Ottawa: On May 19, 2016, at the Caraquet Provincial Court in Caraquet, New Brunswick, Paolo Chiasson was convicted of two counts of contravening paragraph 14(3)(a) and (b) of the Fish Inspection Regulations and was ordered to pay $500 fine for each count.

14 (3) No person shall export fish unless

  1. all processing and storage of the fish is carried out in a registered establishment; or
  2. the person holds a fish export licence.

The CFIA's investigation determined that, on July 24, 2013 and July 29, 2013, Mr. Chiasson exported a total of 7500 pounds of snow crab to Viandex Inc. that was not prepared and stored in a registered establishment or did not hold a fish export licence.
