Notice of intent: Amendment to the CFIA Fees Notice on fish import inspection fees

Purpose

This notice is to inform stakeholders of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency's (CFIA) intent to amend the CFIA Fees Notice to address the fish import inspection service fees on Part 16, Section 4 and Table 2: Inspection Service for Imports. This amendment will eliminate the reference to two distinct licenses and establish a single fee for all types of imported fish products.

Drivers to amend the CFIA Fees Notice on Fish Import Inspection Fees

In 2018-2019, the CFIA made the decision to maintain the two-tier fish import inspection service fees. This approach was taken to minimize the impact(s) to industry following the implementation of the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR), until a broader service fees modernization initiative could be implemented. During this time, the CFIA conducted stakeholder consultations and no significant concerns were raised.

As part of its service fees modernization initiative, the CFIA is undertaking measures to update the CFIA Fees Notice to align with regulatory updates, and is prioritizing the development of a new fee structure for fish import inspection fees based on the principles found in the CFIA's Cost Recovery Policy and Framework.
