Product specifications

  • Singapore's Sale of Food Act 1973 and the Food Regulations set the standards for food sold for human consumption. Product requirements include limits on
    • microbiological standards
    • heavy metals
    • mycotoxins and marine biotoxins
    • veterinary drug residues
    • pesticide residues
    • other incidental constituents (histamines)

  • All live oysters for human consumption are considered ready-to-eat food
  • Frozen oysters require testing for norovirus prior to export

Documentation requirements

Certificate of origin and hygiene (CFIA/ACIA 5003) is required for export of all fish and seafood products to Singapore.

The following products also require additional attestations on the certificate:

For live oysters, the certificate must state:

  • a) products were harvested from approved waters and processed in an approved establishment or plant in a sanitary and hygienic manner
  • b) products have not been treated with chemical preservatives or other additives injurious to health
  • c) product is fit for human consumption

Include all of the following information:

Harvest area(s): XXX, province, Canada
(not closed for marine toxins at time of harvest)
Harvest date(s) (DD/MM/YYYY): ____________________

XXX = Fisheries and Oceans Canada Area and sub area of the harvest for the consignment
Province = enter province where harvesting of product took place

For frozen oysters, the certificate must state:

  • a) products were harvested from approved waters and processed in an approved establishment or plant in a sanitary and hygienic manner
  • b) products have not been treated with chemical preservatives or other additives injurious to health
  • c) consignment has been tested and found to be free of norovirus
  • d) product is fit for human consumption

For frozen blood cockle meat, frozen cooked prawns, and frozen raw or cooked crabmeat, the certificate must state:

  • a) products were harvested from approved waters and processed in an approved establishment or plant in a sanitary and hygienic manner
  • b) products have not been treated with chemical preservatives or other additives injurious to health
  • c) product is fit for human consumption
