Please be advised this is an update regarding the outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) in Finland, and the import measures that the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is implementing to safeguard the health of Canada's livestock and prevent the economic impact of a potential ASF outbreak in Canada. As of August 12, 2026, the CFIA recognizes Finland's zoning for ASF.
Uncooked pork and raw inedible porcine by-products from swine slaughtered anywhere in Finland between June 24, 2026 and August 11, 2026 are not eligible for import into Canada.
Uncooked pork or raw inedible porcine by-products from swine slaughtered anywhere in Finland on or before June 23, 2026 may be imported without an import permit. The slaughter date must appear in a document signed by an official veterinarian. If there is no date of slaughter or collection on the certificate, then the signature date of the certificate will be used.
Uncooked pork and raw inedible porcine by-products from swine slaughtered in Finland in a zone free of ASF on or after August 12, 2026 may be imported with a Permit to import animal products and by-products. The import permit will provide the documentation requirements to be certified by an official veterinarian of the exporting country including the Official Meat Inspection Certificate and/or zoosanitary certificate.
