Whereas:
- Secondary control zones were declared on March 19, 2026, by the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food pursuant to subsection 27.1(2) of the Health of Animals Act (HAA) in respect of African swine fever (Declaration Order);
- The Minister has the power under section 27.3 of the HAA to, by order, amend an order made under subsection 27.1(2) of that act;
- The power of the Minister, under section 27.3 of the HAA, has been delegated to the President of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, in accordance with subsection 4(2) of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency Act;
- I, Dr. Harpreet Kochhar, President of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, believe that the disease, African swine fever, can be prevented from spreading into Canada at the Port of Sorel-Tracy, through which I believe that African swine fever may be introduced into Canada;
Therefore, pursuant to the authority set out in section 27.3 of the HAA, I hereby amend the Schedule to the Declaration Order, to add the Port of Sorel-Tracy as a secondary control zone to the list of areas described in the Schedule.
This order is effective on the date of its signature.
