The CFIA is not aware of any pre-approvals required by Kuwait.
3. Production controls and inspection requirements
The manufacturer of processed foods exported to Kuwait must be licensed under Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR).
The manufacturer and exporter should be aware of the food standards and requirements of the importing country and have specific export controls in place. For more information, consult the CFIA's Food Export Control Policy.
4. Labelling, packaging and marking requirements
It is the exporter's responsibility to meet all standards, labelling, packaging and marking requirements of the importing country.
5. Required documents
Certificate of free sale (CFS)
Kuwait requires a human health/sanitary certificate issued by the competent authority of the exporting country for all imported processed fruit, processed vegetable, and maple products. This certificate contains public health attestations indicating that the product has been prepared by a SFCR licence holder and is safe for human consumption. Kuwait has indicated that a CFIA issued Certificate of Free Sale (CFIA/ACIA 5786) with additional information addresses its requirements.
Certificate reference number to appear on supporting documents
In order to link supporting shipment documents to the CFS, Kuwait requires the unique certificate reference number located in the top right corner of the CFS to be referenced on all industry documents accompanying the shipment including, but not necessarily limited to:
- documents which include consignee and/or recipient information
- documents with product information
- invoices
- packing lists
Additional product information required by Kuwait on the CFS
The Product Description field of the CFS must contain the following information for each product row within the certificate:
- product name
- brand name
- HS code
- treatment type (optional)
- number of packages
The Lot Code field must contain the following information:
- lot code
- production date
- expiry date or best before date
If you are unable to include all details on the CFS, you must include the information in supporting documentation that references the unique CFS number issued for the shipment.
Note: export certificates cannot be issued for products that have left Canada.
Import permit
An import permit issued by the foreign competent authority may be required and may contain specific import requirements. If this is the case, provide the import permit to your local CFIA office for review.
6. Other information
Halal certification
CFIA is not involved in halal certification. Exporters should work with their importer to determine if the product to be exported requires halal certification and identify the appropriate certification body that is recognized by Kuwait.
Samples
Samples, either personal or commercial, may be subject to the same requirements as commercial shipments. Exporters are advised to verify import requirements with their importer.
