Türkiye – Export requirements for fish and seafood

Notice

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has been informed by the Republic of Türkiye's Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MinAF) that an export eligibility list for establishments exporting certain fishery and aquatic products will be implemented on January 1, 2026. Türkiye has advised they will publish the export list prior to the implementation date.

Affected Canadian establishments must initiate a request for addition to Türkiye's export eligibility list immediately to prevent any issues with future shipments.

Exporters are strongly encouraged to work with their importer to confirm establishment listing and other importing country requirements prior to export.

Procedure to update Türkiye's establishment eligibility list

Contact your local CFIA office to initiate a request in writing to add, modify or delete an establishment.

To request inclusion on Türkiye's list, submit the following information to your local CFIA office:

  • establishment identification (ID) number
  • Safe Food for Canadians (SFC) licence number
  • company name as it should appear on the export list. The options are
    • legal name of business as it appears on the SFC licence, or
    • legal name of business (operating name), or
    • legal name of business (vessel name)
  • physical site address of the establishment

Applicants will receive a questionnaire that must be completed and returned to CFIA for submission to MinAF.

Note that establishments that are not listed on an applicable European Union (EU) export eligibility list may be subject to an audit by MinAF prior to receiving export approval from Türkiye. To simplify the approval process, it is recommended that establishments are listed on a commodity-specific EU export list prior to submitting the Türkiye application package

Note: all addition, amendment and deletion requests will be submitted to Türkiye for approval. Approval time frames may vary depending upon circumstances beyond the control of the CFIA.
