Trinidad and Tobago - Export requirements for fish and seafood

  • All fish and seafood products

Pre-export approvals by competent authority of importing country

Import permit

  • Importers of certain fish and seafood product must have an Import License
  • Fresh (live or dead), chilled or frozen products requiring import licenses:
    • All finfish
    • Crustaceans: shrimp (prawn), lobster, and crabmeat
  • Please consult the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago Ministry of Trade and Industry to determine what products require import licenses
  • Letter of prior approval may be required for the list of ingredients.

Labelling, packaging and marking requirements

  • Containers must have the following product information:
    • consignee mark and port mark;
    • number, unless containers can be readily identified;
    • brand name and/or common brand;
    • net weight, volume and ingredients list; and,
    • declaration of preservatives, food colours and imitation flavourings used.
  • Each shipment must have the following Canadian establishment information:
    • Identity of the establishment at which the fish is packed and the day, month and year of packing legibly marked on one end of the carton or case in which the containers of fish are shipped.
    • In the case of canned fish, a list indicating the establishment and the number of containers for each production batch is provided to an inspector.
    • Each container has a label on which the name of the country of origin is clearly identified.
