Alternative service delivery

Alternative service delivery (ASD) is when organizations outside the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) deliver programs and services on behalf of the agency. The CFIA formally authorizes these organizations under formal legal instruments, which clearly define terms and conditions.

Benefits

ASD lets us design programs and deliver services with more flexibility and efficiency. By bringing in outside experts and resources when needed, we can improve services for Canadians and make better use of CFIA resources.

We oversee ASD activities to ensure that it meets regulatory requirements and that any associated risks are properly managed.
