- Origin & Breeding: bred by the USDA at Beltsville, Maryland (USA) from the cross (B1299-15 x B1268-46) and selected by the USDA and Frito-Lay Inc. in 1953.

- Maturity: mid-season.
Botanical Features
- Plants: medium sized, spreading; stems medium thick, round; nodes slightly swollen; internodes slightly reddish; wings straight.
- Leaves: medium-sized, light green; midribs scantly pubescent.
Terminal leaflets: broadly ovate.
Primary leaflets: medium-sized, three pairs.
Secondary leaflets: numerous.
Tertiary leaflets: few. - Flowers: numerous; large white corolla; flower buds not pigmented, strongly pubescent.
- Tubers: oblong to ovate, flattened; smooth light creamy buff skin; shallow to medium-deep eyes; white flesh.
- Sprouts: ovoid; base olive green; tip reddish purple.
Agricultural Features
Medium to high yielding variety, early tuber set, variable tuber shape; handles well. Good storability at 7 °C, reconditions rapidly after cold storage; short dormancy period; medium to low specific gravity.
- Utilization: fair for boiling and baking, acceptable for french frying, excellent for chipping at harvest and after numerous storage treatments.

Resistant: PVA, PVS, PVX.
Moderately resistant: PVY, verticillium wilt.
Moderately susceptible: leaf roll, fusarium tuber rot.
