Service Standards and Fees

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) charges fees for some of the services it provides to industry and stakeholders.

Committed to continuous improvement to better serve these stakeholders and Canadians overall, the CFIA is proposing to streamline and update its cost recovery program by reviewing its service standards and fees.

The goals of this review are to verify

• that the service standards and fees the CFIA uses are in line with the actual cost of delivering the services, and
• that all industry sectors are being treated equally in terms of the service standards and fees being applied.

A streamlined and updated cost recovery program will support regulated parties in the food, plant and animal sectors. This approach is to allow greater consistency in fees and improved predictability in service delivery while aligning fees to better reflect the current costs of delivering service.

Before making any changes to the cost recovery program, the CFIA is undertaking a transparent process of engaging with Canadian businesses and consumers.
