General
- Origin & Breeding: bred by Agriculture Canada from the cross (Ultimus x Katahdin) and selected at the St. John's West Research Station, Newfoundland, in 1962.

Botanical Features
- Plants: medium large, upright; nodes slightly swollen; wings slightly prominent.
- Leaves: open, smooth, dark green; young leaves slightly yellowish; midribs reddish purple, slightly pubescent.
Terminal leaflets: elliptical to ovate.
Primary leaflets: elliptical, mainly three pairs.
Secondary leaflets: numerous.
Tertiary leaflets: few, small. - Flowers: numerous, large, red-purple with white tips; green buds having purple bronze pigmentation.
- Tubers: oval, smooth, medium size; pink skin; shallow eyes, predominantly apical; white flesh.
- Sprouts: red purple.
Agricultural Features
High yielding variety; high tuber set; good storability; medium specific gravity. Wide spacing (up to 46 cm) has increased marketable yields; tubers separate readily from stolons.
- Utilization: good for boiling and baking.
- Chief Market: fresh market in Newfoundland.
Reaction to Diseases
Resistant: potato wart (races 1,2,6,8)
Moderately resistant: black leg, leaf roll, PVA, PVS, PVX, PVY, late blight.
Susceptible: common scab.
