General

  • Origin & Breeding: bred by S. Brunia from the cross (Renova x AM 66/42) in Kraggenburg (Netherlands) in 1971.
  • Year registered in Canada: 1998
  • Registration number: 4745

Botanical Features

  • Plants: medium to tall, semi erect to erect growth; thick stems with slight purple pigmentation; wings prominent, straight, single or double; nodes not swollen and not pigmented.
  • Leaves: dark green, large, closed to semi open, slight pigmentation on top of midribs.
    Terminal leaflets: medium ovate, apex acute, base symmetrical and obtuse.
    Primary leaflets: five pairs, narrowly ovate, apex acuminate, base symmetrical and cordate.
  • Flowers: numerous, medium to large, blue-violet corolla with white tips; yellow-orange anthers; long and moderately pigmented peduncle; buds moderately pigmented; many berries.
  • Tubers: oval, large and uniform; smooth light yellow skin; shallow eyes, non prominent eyebrows; cream coloured flesh.
  • Sprouts: broad cylindrical, medium to strong red-violet pigmentation at the base, very weak at the tip; very weak pubescence at the base, weak to medium at the tip.

Agricultural Features

High yielding variety; tubers are usually large and uniform. Very good resistance to bruising, good resistance to drought. High specific gravity. Medium dormancy period.

  • Utilization: soft mealy flesh; good fry colour. Good for baking and for chipping.
  • Chief Markets: fresh market, processing.

Reaction to Diseases

Resistant: potato cyst nematode Ro1.
Good resistance: common scab.
Moderate resistance: late blight, leaf roll.
Moderately susceptible: blackleg, powdery scab, PVY.
