National inventory of asbestos in Canadian Food Inspection Agency buildings

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) National Asbestos Inventory lists all buildings owned by the CFIA and indicates whether or not they have a known presence of asbestos as of November 26, 2020.

Consult the inventory

To find out whether there is a known presence of asbestos in a building owned by the CFIA, locate the building in the inventory below. You can search by entering key words in the "Filter items" box. You can also sort certain columns to locate a building by its unique Directory of Federal Real Property number, name, municipality, or by province or territory.

Notes

  • Only properties owned by the CFIA are listed in the inventory. CFIA also leases buildings from Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC). Information about buildings owned by PSPC can be accessed through the PSPC National Asbestos Inventory webpage.
  • The Government of Canada carefully manages the risks associated with asbestos in its buildings. All buildings owned by the CFIA or leased from PSPC that contain asbestos are required to have an asbestos management plan. If asbestos has recently been discovered, an asbestos management plan may not yet be in place.
  • Buildings that are part of a campus or grouping of buildings are listed under their individual building names and individual addresses, not the campus name. For example, you can find the Main Pathology Laboratory in the inventory, but not the Ottawa Laboratory Fallowfield campus.
  • Where there is no asbestos in a building, an asbestos management plan is not required.
  • At some CFIA owned buildings, asbestos survey work is ongoing. For these buildings, the inventory will indicate "work in progress". The CFIA National Inventory of Asbestos will be updated with information about these buildings as additional surveys are completed. The CFIA National Inventory of Asbestos will be updated with information about these buildings annually.
